It’s not a comprehensive list but here are a few films that aroused our curiosity for this coming year.

We’re going to move quickly from the ton of superhero movies. That said, we will keep Deadpool 2 on our list. And all this, bearing in mind what Jodie Foster recently said about the standardisation of Hollywood.

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, by Xavier Dolan, is about a Hollywood star who has a secret relationship with a young British man, and the editor of a tabloid who tries to destroy his life.

The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro, a very aquatic tale already released in the United States and eagerly awaited in Europe.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. This fantasy adventure-comedy took almost 20 years to make and is loosely based on the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story centres on Han Solo who later meets Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. The film is due out in May.

Mary, Queen of Scots, tells the story of the Scottish queen imprisoned for years at the behest of Elizabeth I, and the battle for the English crown.

Boy Erased is based on a book by Garrard Conley. It’s about the son of a Baptist minister who is forced to take part in a gay conversion programme.

Bohemian Rhapsody. Rami Malek plays Freddy Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. The film looks at the British rock band in the years leading up to the Live Aid concert.
